The founding element of the Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program is food for the Elders. It is the deepest and most consistent need the Elders and their families have. To make it easier for individuals to more personally assist the Elders, we have two food support programs.
Food Certificates: You can purchase food certificates from the Program that can be used at all Bashas grocery stores, which are located throughout the reservation. The certificates are available anytime from the Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program in $25 increments.
If you do not choose to adopt an Elder, you may still purchase the food certificates and we will see that they are sent to an Elder in need (see Feathers for the Forgotten Ones). The certificates can only be used to purchase food and off-the-shelf medical items, and cannot be used for alcohol, cigarettes or lottery tickets.
Rainbow Food Boxes: If you choose not to use the Food Gift Certificates, we offer the Rainbow Food Box Program. A $75 donation will purchase two boxes of food for an Elder. Volunteers will purchase needed items and box them for you and they will be delivered to an Elder during our semi-annual food runs. These items can only be delivered during the semi-annual food runs (spring and fall).
If you would prefer to mail your check to the Program rather than use the shopping cart system, you can print and use our Donation Mail Form . |
