Donations to this portion of the Program support weavers by providing traditional Navajo yarns. These yarns are a double gift. They provide a means for the Elders and weavers in their families to continue the tradition of weaving and also allow them to sell their rugs and weavings for badly needed cash. Many of the rugs in the rug catalog are woven from yarns given to the Elders through the Yarn Program. Today, many of the Elders are unable to raise enough sheep to have the wool needed to make rugs.
